Most number of laws passed for new legislative session
At 9pm Australian Eastern Standard Time the new Assembly had its first session after the recent election, where our Assembly Members passed nine separate pieces of legislation; the highest for a single session. The laws passed included the DSCP’s Human Dignity in Commerce, New Fundamental Human Rights and Universal Environment Protection Acts. The CAP passed their five acts relating to the powers of the Assembly, its organisation and how treaties are to be ratified. Speaking of treaties, the final two legislative pieces to be passed were the friendship treaties with the Republic of West Who and the Kingdom of the Navasse; both efforts were organised by the DSCP as part of their peace orientated foreign policy. However, voting on the Universal Vaccine Public Safety Act was tabled for a later session, as the Assembly deemed it needed greater time to debate and research this critical issue.
The Premier commenting on the session said “We are proud today of what our Assembly achieved, the DSCP is also extremely proud of passing our major, groundbreaking laws such as the Universal Environment Protection Act, that will allow our government to seize all assets of any corporation that causes massive environmental damage. The Human Dignity in Commerce Act which gives our Confederation major powers to break up the cruel monopolies that have shut down countless small businesses. Or our new Human Rights act that ensures healthcare, affordable housing and higher education are rights to be enjoyed by all of our citizens. These victories prove that the DSCP is working towards making our Confederation a government for all Humankind… Before we leave today it must be acknowledged that these laws came from listening to our citizens through our Community Events, and we thank our citizens once again for all their work, we couldn’t have done this without them.”
The Opposition Leader Connor also commented on the sessions stating that “I think that despite its hurried nature it was a very productive meeting. Whilst some issues (notably the vaccine law) were tabled for later discussion I’m glad we were able to pass some critical treaties and legislation”
Overall, this represented a great day for our Confederation, it proved that we are all striving towards a more perfect union through bipartisanship and that the flame of our democracy burns brightly.
