A republic in crisis, an open letter to Biden
Dear Mr. President-Elect,
The people of the Vladastock Confederation congratulate you and Vice-President-Elect Kamala Harris on your outstanding victory. Once again America reminds the world of the benefits of democracy, and yet there is no time to lose in the fight for America’s soul.
The behavior of the United States in the last four years has been nothing short of appalling, old allies such as the European Union were diplomatically sidelined in favor of despots and dictators. Whilst newer allies such as the Kurdish people, who bravely fought and defeated ISIS were abandoned in their gravest hour of need. The last administration’s total disregard for democratic nations and movements will have profound effects on the world for decades to come. The United States must immediately attempt to remedy this, firstly by reigning in the Turkish regime, stopping their horrendous attacks on the Kurds. Secondly, the United States must support European leaders that are in favor of greater centralization, only by having a strong EU can the Democratic world hope to contest the rise of authoritarian regimes.
At home America faces even greater challenges, a pandemic devastated economy combined with deep political divisions will mean that stable, compassionate and decisive leadership will be needed. This will include much needed law enforcement reform, the righteous Black Lives Uprising is correct in their demands for more accountable policing. The Democrat Party must abandon failed Neo-liberal policies that have devastated the working class and begin a major nation spanning New Deal that can rebuild both the Working and Middle classes. Finally tax reform that meaningfully targets billionaires will ensure that the American dream does not become a fantasy.
None of this will be easy, however the promise and dream of America are worth fighting for. Your country’s example is a beacon to peoples all over the world, a nation that can right historic wrongs and proudly march into the future pursuing a fundamental truth “that all men are created equal”. The Vladastock Confederation, its states and all its citizens wish you, President-Elect and your country all the best in your endeavors to achieve the American dream.
