End of Year Address 2023
End of Year Address for 2023, from the Premier.
TEXT OF SPEECH
Introduction
Citizens of the Confederation, Peoples of the World
As the year draws to a close, I wish to extend on behalf of this administration and the Confederation our warmest holiday wishes. May the new year bring you and your family’s peace and prosperity. This year has been a productive one for our Confederation and I am immensely proud of the work we have done! We have hit major highs and endured some lows, yet throughout it all our citizens maintained their faith in this union, going above and beyond to ensure the success of our Confederation. I wish to take this time to go over this year’s major achievements and outline our plans for the coming year.
Conventions
The highlights of the year had to be our Micronational Convention on Nuclear Weaponry and our Micronational Convention on Chemical and Biological Weapons. These conventions took months of preparation to create. We conducted in-depth research, before asking our citizens what their opinions were through Community Events. Many weeks of debates and revisions followed.
The end result was two conventions we can be immensely proud of. Other micronations, from Africa to Asia, New Zealand to America signed on! This begins our journey as thought leaders within the Micronational community. Because it is not enough merely to exist within this space, we need to actively improve it and these acts of activism do that.
Community
However, what warms my heart the most is the many times we came together as a community. Whether it was Community Events or episodes of World Lounge; I deeply valued the time we got to spend together as friends and comrades. Any nation, Micro or Macro is defined by the people who inhabit it, and we have some wonderful citizens who really make this union shine. I am so grateful for each and every single one of you.
Plans for the new year
But now, onto the what the future holds; to quote old Frank Sinatra, the best is yet to come. This administration has big plans for this coming year. Firstly, we plan to finish and pass the Children’s Liberty and Care act; this critical piece of legislation has been a policy goal for a year now; it is high time we make it a reality.
Secondly, I believe it is critical that we increase engagement with our Member States and make Vladastock a multiparty democracy once more. To that end, this administration has reached out to our brothers and sisters in Ederlaand to have their citizens run for office. I believe it is imperative that all Member States feel represented within our Confederation Assembly. King Andrew the Second of Ederlaand has already been a major contributor to our Community Events and I hope that his new government will forge a political party and join the Confederation Assembly!
Finally, I believe it prudent to expand our community building efforts beyond the purely legislative events. Citizen engagement is a top priority of this administration, and it is certainly a challenge since all our citizens face the demands of adulthood. This administration is always open to new ideas and would be keen to discover more ways to keep our community engaged and thriving. If you have any suggestions on new types of events or activities our citizens could partake in, please reach out on any of our social media channels.
Conclusion
We have had a great year. Despite challenges our citizens have gone above and beyond for this Confederation. I am so proud of you all and incredibly grateful for your support and your effort. Please have a safe and enjoyable holiday.
This has been your Premier, William Alexander, signing off.
