Third Quarter Report 2023

Introduction

Citizens of Vladastock,

The third quarter of the year has come and past. It was a time of great trial for our union, as many events the government planned had to be cancelled due to increasing demands made on our citizens. Indeed, I found myself in a different state in Australia attending to the needs of my grandfather as one of his carers.

For this report, we will delve into what did and didn’t work rather than use our traditional format.

What worked

  1. Nuclear Convention: Ratifying the nuclear convention was a major achievement for our Confederation. The convention was the product of months of negotiations, redrafts and revisions. We ratified it through a remote session of the Assembly; as competing schedules did not allow for a traditional session.

  2. Micropatriological Research Institute: Founding this institute and populating it with academic quality work on Micronationalism is a point of pride for this administration. We will continue to upload articles over the next few months.

  3. Our ten year celebrations: It was wonderful catching up with our citizens at our ten year anniversary of micronationalism party. It was a great chance to unwind and celebrate.

  4. Honest conversations with our citizens: During this quarter, as we had to cancel a number of events, this administration appealed to the Confederation’s citizens to give an honest assessment of our situation. The feedback received was direct and enlightening. As time marches on, every one of our citizens faces increased demands on their time. Whilst we all agreed to continue with this union, we decided that events should be less frequent so as not to overwhelm people. We are also committed to reforming Vladastock to ensure it remains agile and adaptable. All feedback received is deeply appreciated.

What didn’t work

  1. Movie night idea: Despite being a good suggestion, organising and blocking out a 2-3 hour span of time for a film is just not practical for our citizens. Especially since we operate across a number of different time zones.

  2. Xingu within our union: Xingu is a great micronation, led by a wonderful person. However, their desire to forge foreign policy without any input from the government was incompatible with our constitution. Whilst we are sad to see them go, we do wish Xingu every success as they continue to be a shining light in the South American micronationalist community.

  3. Traditional Assembly sessions: We have found out this quarter that online voting, taking place over the course of a few days yields greater success than organising a traditional session. With competing schedules and the demands of adulthood it is the most practical solution.

Conclusion

Overall, I am proud of the progress our union has made. Even if it hasn’t been as successful or eventful as previous quarters. Vladastock shall continue to fight for a better world and I truly believe our best days are ahead of us.
